Eagles & Sharks gave spectators everything that was expected from a local derby as they met for their first encounter of the season.

The opening 10 mins laid the platform for a thrilling game, with hard hitting forwards and fast paced backs, the crowd were in for a treat.
It was Eagles who swooped in for the first points as Ian Pirrie dummied and jinked through for the score, converted by James Wilde, minutes later excellent ball play saw Stuart Pirrie charging for the line with only the full back to beat, who was not going to prevent Eagles second try. With a 10 point lead Eagles then got into a bit of a flap and gifted Rylands possession which saw them move up the field and put themselves back in the game with their own try. Eagles defence worked hard as Ryland pressure for another score before half time and were nearly rewarded only to have players held up over the line twice.
The Sharks started the second half with speed and determination levelling the scores in the first minute. Eagles were given a break when a penalty in front of the sticks allowed James Wilde to put the visitors 2 points ahead.Eagles were now back in their stride, Damon Fishwick found himself in space with Danny Martin on his shoulder who took the ball forward and a perfectly timed pass saw Colin Mitchinson cross for his first try in Eagles colours.
Eagles looked to have the game in the bag and were very much in control as James Wilde picked up a loose ball to see Stuart Pirrie cross for his second, but as with derbies anything can happen as Eagles found themselves down to 12 men after a bit of handbags and Sharks took advantage to immediately take six points followed swiftly by another converted try..... 2 points in it and with minutes to go that seemed like a lifetime... Rylands continued to pressure the visitors line and it looked like it was all over as Rylands celebrated a try, which was then deemed to have come from a forward pass and saw a Shark head to the bin for dissent. Again time seemed to stand still and chances went back and to with both teams tiring and making errors and willing the whistle to signal full time.... whilst Ryalnds were hoping for an opportunity to got those extra points, it was Eagles that hung on and took the spoils.
