New captain, New era

Culcheth eagles open age would like to confirm our new captaincy set up for the 2019 season.

Head coach Darryl Appleby has announced that last year's vice captain Adam Heggie has been promoted to club captain for the 2019 season succeeding James Wilde from last year. Adam has been a key player for a few years now and as vice captain for the last few seasons has had the respect of the players. Adam leads from the front on the field but also contributes off the field with his knowledge of the game helping others out as much as possible.

The club would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to James for his years of service to the club. James has captained the side for a number of years now and on more than enough occasions James has pulled the club through thick and thin and was at the forefront of the club's promotion bid last season. We wish James all the best on his new challenge away from the club.

The club can confirm Max Hewitt has been named as vice captain for the upcoming season. Max has been a mainstay in the team playing vital roles in a number of positions. His versatility saw him play no more than 6 different positions last season and his performances didn't falter in any. Max's off field commitment has proved most valuable as he leads in training, mentoring and guiding players whenever they need assistance, a true attribute of a natural leader.

In the mix of all the changes Greg Wilde has also taken a role of defensive coach helping out when needed to ensure the team is at its peak during the season. Greg will work alongside Darryl in training using his knowledge from previous experiences to help improve the team.

Joe Weir remains as team manager concentrating on all the aspects behind the scenes. Joe has done a fantastic job with this role ensuring the coaches are free to coach the team.

This new set up is the one that we hope will take the club forward into a new era. The club will be asking a number of players to form a leadership group in the coming weeks. These players will be at the head of all we do down at Culcheth.

Onwards, Upwards, Together
